Lean Design for Healthcare Interiors
Our February dinner meeting speaker will be Anita Rossen, the lead interior designer for ZGF. Since joining ZGF Architects in 2004, Anita has had extensive experience designing sustainable, patient-centered healing environments that incorporate Lean design principles.
For years, lean management systems (often referred to as the Toyota Way) have been transforming the way hospitals and healthcare organizations approach their work, helping deliver patient-centered care with greater efficiency, less waste and a reduced environmental footprint. But it has been only recently that these principles are increasingly being utilized by the healthcare design community to create physical environments that support and enhance the evolving lean organizational culture in healthcare facilities. The lean design process, with a methodical focus on reducing excess and waste while improving human experience, typically results in more flexible and efficient buildings that consume fewer resources over time.
The goal of lean, to minimize waste and maximize value by constantly adapting, is similar to the concept at the root of sustainability, which aims to increase the long term viability for humans to continue to inhabit this planet. Lean and green empower each other when considered together.
Please join us to learn more about this exciting approach to integrating the design and operation of healthcare facilities.
